The best carabiner for sport climbing that doesn’t wear out
If there is something climbers want out of a sport climbing carabiner is lightweight. Comes with options for an auto-locking gate, and a keeper gate to prevent cross-loading. And if possible one that doesn’t wear. It may sound like too much to ask for in a carabiner. Fortunately, there is a design that checks all the boxes.
Edelrid Bulletproof carabiner design
The Edelrid bulletproof series was launched in late 2018. I bought one and loved it. I had never found any good reasons to retire a carabiner. Unless the carabiner had worn out which only happens at the portion that comes in contact with other gear. Thus you may need to retire a perfectly good carabiner just because of this issue.
Edelrid had solved the problem of carabiners wearing out at the gear contact area by incorporating a steel insert. For a carabiner to be lightweight aluminium alloy is used. Unfortunately, alloy it’s not as hard as steel. Hence we see the gear contact area of your carabiner is the first to wear out. Therefore, having a steel insert at the gear contact area of the carabiner will eliminate wearing and prolong the lifespan of your gear.

Edelrid Bulletproof Quickdraw Set
The Edelrid Bulletproof quickdraw set comes with steel inserts on both top and bottom carabiners. Carabiners on quickdraws wear out easily, especially the carabiner that clips to the bolt hanger. So using Edelrid Bulletproof quickdraw sets will minimize wear on carabiners and prolong the lifespan of your gear.
