The carabiner that don’t wear
If there is something climbers want out of a belaying carabiner is lightweight, with an auto-locking gate, a keeper gate to prevent cross-loading, and if possible one that doesn’t wear. It sounds like too much to ask for in a carabiner but there is one that checks all the boxes.
Edelrid Bulletproof series
The Edelrid bulletproof series was launched in late 2018 (yes I’m late on this) but I just bought one recently and I love it. I had never found any reasons to retire a carabiner except for the wore out the portion where the rope rub against.
The bulletproof design
Edelrid had solved the problem of wore carabiners at the rope contact part by incorporating a steel insert. For a carabiner to be lightweight aluminum alloy is used but it’s not as hard as steel hence we see this smooth wore-out curve at the rope contact portion of our carabiner.
Incorporation of a steel inserts on the rope contact area to prevent wear from abrasion this design can also be found on the Edelrid quickdraw set.
This is not a sponsored post but if you are looking to buy climbing carabiners that last. The Edelrid bulletproof series is your best option.
