IFSC Asia Championship 2022
The IFSC Asia Championship 2022 took place in Seoul Korea. There are 4 competition categories – boulder, lead, speed and boulder + lead. The boulder + lead category is a new format for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Speed
Indonesia dominated speed climbing in 2022 and is the hot favourite to win. The Men’s Indonesia team has 6 out of 16 athletes in the Speed finals and the Women’s team has 3.
The Women’s Indonesian team took all 3 spots on the podium. However, for the men’s speed final, Korea’s Seungbeom Lee won gold by defeating all 3 of Indonesia’s top speed climbers. He beat Kiromal Katibin followed by Aspar Aspar and Veddriq Leonardo in the final climb.

Boulder
Japan has had some of the strongest boulderers in the IFSC competition for years. In this Asia Championship, the Japanese men’s team took all 3 spots on the podium. Tomoa Narasaki won with 3 tops and 4 zones to beat his compatriots Yoshiyuki Ogata and Katsura Konishi.

Lead
The men’s lead event sees the Japanese team taking the top 3 spots. Making a clean sweep for both boulder and lead events. For the women’s lead event. We saw the return of Korea’s legend Kim Jain back after a 2 years hiatus. She looked just as good as she did when she last competed in 2019.

Boulder and Lead Combined
Tomoa Narasaki finished 3rd in the combined boulder behind Yoshiyuki Ogata and Kokoro Fujii. However, he was able to make up the deficit by topping the lead route and edged Kokoro Fujii to win the combined finals. With this win, Tomoa Narasaki won all 3 events in the 2022 Asia Championship.
