IFSC Climbing World Championship Bern 2023

The IFSC Climbing World Championship takes place once every 2 years. This year, Bern Switzerland host the World Championship from the 1st to the 12th of August.

Many top climbers had been selective on which competition to participate in this year. However, for the World Championship, every competition climbers are taking part. Because apart from winning the prestigious title of being crowned world champion, climbers are competing for the 10 Olympic quotas for Paris 2024.

In recent years we had seen the rise of many talented young climbers competing against and even outperforming their senior counterparts. Thus the Bern 2023 Climbing World Championship is the competition for these young climbers to compete against the world’s best and see how they measure up.

Men’s Bouldering World Championship Finals Result

These days, when it comes to bouldering it is typically a style that favours younger climbers. The dynamic and explosive parkour moves are not something older climbers prefer. Thus in the finals, most are expecting climbers like Mejdi Schalck, Toby Roberts and Japan’s Soratu Anraku to win. However, the eventual winner of the IFSC 2023 Boulder World Championship is Mickeal Mawem of France.

At the age of 33, Mickeal had competed for over 10 years and had never won an IFSC World Cup Competition. Hence the odds of him winning the World Championship in bouldering are slim. However, Mickeal performed flawlessly throughout the competition and won the gold convincingly against his younger competitors thus proving that apart from natural-born talent, experience is still a key ingredient to winning a major title.
