IFSC Innsbruck 2023 Boulder World Cup
IFSC World Cup comes to Innsbruck, Austria. Innsbruck has a jam-packed schedule. A four days event starting with boulder follow by lead.
Innsbruck Women’s Boulder Finals Result
Janja Garnbret is back after finishing 2nd in Prague behind Oriane Bertone an unusual result. However, in Innsbruck normal service resumed as Janja dominated the women’s field in the finals. 4 tops in 4 attempts flashing every single boulder problem the route setters can throw at her. Natalia Grossman and Miho Nonaka were only able to get 2 tops, and 4 zones with multiple attempts. That is how big the gap is between Janja and the rest of the top women boulderers.

Innsbruck Men’s Boulder Finals Result
Unlike the women’s final which was won by Janja a veteran climber, the men’s final was won by a young up-and-coming climber. Soratu Anraku at just 16 years old is competing at the senior level for the first time in 2023. And at just his first year competing at the senior level he had taken home a silver in Salt Lake City. 2023 had seen the next generation of male climbers outperforming their senior counterparts in the boulder world cups. Climbers such as Mejdi Schalck (FRA), Soratu Anraku (JPN), Dohyun Lee (KOR) and Toby Robert (GBR) all under 21 years of age won at least 1 boulder world cup this year.

IFSC Innsbruck Lead World Cup Finals
IFSC Innsbruck is the first lead world cup event of 2023. The women started the lead event with the much-anticipated match-up between the reigning Olympic Champion Janja Garnbret and Ai Mori, the first and only woman to have beat Janja in lead world cup twice back in 2022. However, Janja after winning the boulder event just a day earlier, was again in top form for lead finishing on top of the podium well ahead of Ai Mori and Jessica Pilz in 3rd.
As for the men’s finals, it was one of those routes. Where almost every climber fell in the same area. Most climbers fell on hold 42 and the result needs to be based on count back to the semi-finals. The top 2 finishers Sascha Lehmann and Alex Megos both fell on 44+ and due to count back Sasha Lehman was the eventual winner.
