IFSC Villars 2023 Lead World Cup

The IFSC Lead and Speed World Cup comes to Villars-sur-Ollon, a village in the western Swiss Vaud Alps. After an exciting first of lead climbing World Cup action in Innsbruck, the second lead round sees the return of Adam Ondra competing in his first lead climbing World Cup of 2023. Also, the return of one of Asia’s biggest names in sport climbing Kim Jain. She is back from retirement and looking to earn a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The men’s final sees the top lead climbers of the world competing together for the first time in 2023. It had been a while since we have Adam Ondra, Alex Megos and Jakob Schubert in the lead finals. 3 of the best sport climbers of our generation and legends of the sport.

In the end, it was Jakob Schubert finishing with the high point on the route. As Adam Ondra finished in second and Alex Megos in third place.

IFSC Villars Women’s Lead Finals Result

After some controversies during the semi-finals where 3 climbers got their legs caught on the rope when making a move. The Jury President decided no penalties were needed and thus there was no change to the standings after the semi-finals. Jessica Pilz was the first to climb in the final and she was on form, getting to the second last hold before falling thus setting a high bar for the rest of the pack to follow. Brook Raboutou ran out of time and finished just shy of Jessica Pilz’s high point when the clock ran out.

Janja Garnbret was the final athlete to climb in the final. And with no climbers topping the route, it is down to Janja. The route has a tricky move near the top which requires the climber to do a 180-degree body rotation to face the crowd and Janja executed the move to the tee after that it was just a walk in the park as she topped the route with time to spare.

IFSC Villars Women’s Speed Final Result

Aleksandra Miroslaw of Poland dominated the IFSC women’s Speed Climbing World Cup thus far in 2023. Unfortunately, Miroslaw did not participate in Villars. However, in her absence, it was Natalia Kalucka who continued the Polish dominance by clinching gold.

IFSC Villars Men’s Speed Final Result

The China men’s speed climbers had been consistently fighting for podium positions in 2023 against the lights of Veddriq and Katibin the multiple speed record holder from team Indonesia. This round in Villars is finally Team China’s turn finishing in 1st and 2nd.
